BACKGROUND

For over 100 years, the Topeka Country Club has provided its members with outstanding amenities, exceptional service, and countless memories—a true home away from home for generations of members. Through committee meetings, member focus groups, town hall meetings, and a membership survey, club leadership encouraged members to provide insight on what they hoped to see in the future of their club, leading to the development of a Facilities Master Plan to enhance existing facilities while adding space for additional amenities.

OUR APPROACH

The building addition includes the Bar Lounge, Casual Dining, Men’s Grill, Golf Shop, Fitness Area, Group Exercise Room and Youth Room. The expansive building addition features a tall, hipped roof over the Bar Lounge and Casual Dining, accented by a cupula in the center of the clubhouse façade. The new portions of the building blend existing building materials (brick, wood trellis, and roof material), but were designed to accent the new spaces and elevate the aesthetic of the building when viewed from the golf course.

The renovation includes expansive (10 feet high) windows along the entire addition to flood the areas with natural light and capitalize on the breathtaking views of the golf course and putting green. In addition, the new bar has a sunken service area so as not to obstruct the views when seated at the bar. The new casual dining space has tall, sloped ceilings with wood beams to follow the new roof. Nearby, a private dining room was created for intimate private gatherings or small club functions, such as wine dinners.

The new Men’s Grill (formerly in the basement) includes a bar, fresh aesthetic, and stairway to provide a direct connection to the Men’s Locker Room on the floor below. Next door, the Golf Shop boasts a high, coffered ceiling with extensive windows, new fixtures, stained pilasters, and easy access to the bag storage and cart staging area located directly outside. This new space also includes a lounge seating area and pool table for an added social element as part of the Golf Shop experience.

The fitness and wellness spaces are a new addition to the club’s amenities, complete with cardio and strength training equipment as well as a Group Exercise Room, which can be used for various classes such as spinning and yoga. A new Youth Room is adjacent to the fitness areas, which connects to the new pool complex outside. The renovation and new spaces have had a tremendously positive impact on the overall club experience and member satisfaction.
