BACKGROUND

Just 22 miles outside of New York City, the Scarsdale Golf Club has at its centerpiece a stunning A.W. Tillinghast-designed golf course and a long history as a preeminent private club in the Northeast

But the building itself had seen better days. The North Complex was last renovated in 1956. The ladies’ locker room needed an update. Deferred maintenance was taking a toll. And from inside the club, it was hard to even see that green and glorious view.

…Chambers sought to maximize the view — taking every opportunity to capture spaces for members to enjoy the beautiful, restful vista of smooth fairways and lush woodlands.

OUR APPROACH

Chambers brought in a new vision — literally. In updating and renovating the club, Chambers oriented the project to offer members the maximum enjoyment of the spectacular view over the course while updating the club’s features to enhance the members’ experience.

The ladies’ locker room got a complete overhaul and the addition of a private massage room. The North Complex received its overdue maintenance and more, with an upgraded pool area and a poolside café with a healthy menu. There’s also a patio and bar above the pool for the over-21 crowd. Scarsdale even carries and brews a brand-name gourmet coffee in its Midway Café, which also offers convenient “grab n’ go” foods.

A 2,800-square-foot fitness center open 5 am to 9 pm every day of the year offers the full spectrum of cardio equipment, with built-in LCD screens, a selection of TV channels and connections for personal audio devices. Weight training equipment and group classes ensure members have a variety of options for comprehensive workouts. And they can finish the day with massage or reflexology in the private therapy room.

RESULTS

Scarsdale Golf Club takes enormous pride in its famous course. But now, it’s much more than a golf club. The renovation incorporated a “play” area for grownups, a dedicated Teen Room and a supervised area where younger children can play video games, watch television and participate in crafts while their parents enjoy the recreational and dining offerings at the club.

And throughout, Chambers sought to maximize the view— taking every opportunity to capture spaces for members to enjoy the beautiful, restful vista of smooth fairways and lush woodlands.
