BACKGROUND

With over a century of rich golfing history and tradition, San Jose Country Club is a family-oriented private club that provides a unique environment in which members, families, and guests enjoy a superior and challenging golf experience, and can take part in memorable social and recreational experiences. To carry these successes into the future, the Club approached Chambers to produce a Facilities Master Plan that would further strengthen this mission and bolster year-round utilization for years to come.

OUR APPROACH

With this goal in mind, Chambers worked with the Club to develop a member-driven plan that would address key components of the member experience, including enhancing the member dining experience, elevating the pool experience, and addressing golf course needs. Chambers conceptualized plans to aesthetically enhance the main entrance, lobby foyer, and corridor spaces to provide a more welcoming first impression.

Once inside, two new distinct casual dining venues will be designed for adult-oriented and family-oriented dining, in addition to a dynamic bar and adjacent lounge, as well as reimagining the Terrance into a multipurpose room for an upscale dining atmosphere that doubles as an event space when needed. Additional Clubhouse enhancements include expanding and covering the outdoor dining terrace and incorporating misting/heating elements for year-round utilization, updating the current kitchen to increase efficiencies, renovating the San Jose Room to incorporate a wine display for private functions, and aesthetically upgrading the Women’s Locker Room/Lounge, banquet rooms, and other common areas.

Additionally, the current Pool, Tennis & Fitness Center will be expanded and reconfigured in order to provide more amenities and capitalize on the natural synergies between these recreational activities. Some of these enhancements include: reimagining the current snack bar to include casual dining and grab-and-go facilities, providing more efficient Changing Rooms for each respective recreational activity, creating an adult-only Cabana Bar, replacing the current baby pool with a more contemporary, sanitary splash pad, and developing four dedicate pickleball courts.

These clubhouse enhancements were planned in tandem with the Club’s golf course master plan, which includes enhancements to the golf course greens, tees, fairways, lake banks, bulkheads, cart paths, bathroom facilities, and landscaping for improved playing quality.

RESULTS

An overwhelming 96% of respondents agreed with the direction of Chambers’ Facilities Master Plan and believe it will serve the needs of both current and prospective members. Clubhouse enhancements were completed in January 2020 and Pool, Tennis & Fitness Center enhancements will occur in the fall of 2020.
