BACKGROUND

A long-time client of Chambers, The Country Club of York has a history of planning ahead for the future and maintaining a focus on elevating the overall member experience. After assisting the Club in 2012 with a major clubhouse renovation that focused on the member dining experience and clubhouse entry, Chambers was thrilled to be involved with the next evolution of this 126-year-old club’s journey.

Considering member feedback and priorities, as well as infrastructural and operational needs, Chambers developed a plan to elevate the pool experience (including addressing existing infrastructure issues with the swimming pool), develop an all-day, fast-casual dining venue, and aesthetically upgrade the Ladies Locker Room, Ballroom, Member Lounge and Restrooms.

PHASE ONE – NEW POOL COMPLEX & CLUBHOUSE UPGRADES

Member feedback from the 2023 Member Survey and Member Focus Groups indicated that enhancements to the current pool experience should be the highest priority. As part of the planning process, the Building Committee engaged an independent engineer to provide a professional opinion on the state of the existing pool and whether it would be best to repair or replace the swimming pool. Their in-depth analysis determined that replacement would be the best option.

The new pool complex will feature a brand-new, 4-lane lap pool combined with a zero-entry recreational pool. Umbrella-covered pool loungers will provide ample shaded lounge space surrounding the pool, and a terraced lawn will provided increased capacity for poolside seating. Renovations to the pool building and snack bar will allow for expanded poolside dining, as well as an enhanced experience in the pool changing rooms and Tennis Shop.

An interactive and colorful splash pad will replace the existing baby pool, while a waterslide, rock climbing wall, and nearby green space will offer a variety of recreational amenities for children.

PHASE TWO –  SOUTH LAWN GRILLE

A later phase of this long-term plan will include enhancing and expanding the outdoor dining experience and South Lawn Grill, as well as the development of a Golf Simulator Lounge for year-round utilization.

NEXT STEPS
