Background

The Grand Lake Lodge and Spa is part of a luxury homes community that includes a golf club, tennis club, fishing facilities, walking and jogging trails, and an innovative playground. As part of the community amenities, residents requested a place to gather, for neighborhood meetings and events, a fitness facility to equal any found anywhere, and a memorable pool complex to complete the family-oriented outdoor experience.

Our Approach

Chambers was hired to provide the architectural ambiance and the interior design that members felt was appropriate to the area: Low Country design is based on the climate, the setting near water, and the available structural materials, mostly brick and wood, and balances the formal with a relaxed approach to living. The new complex was designed to settle into the dramatic marshland setting, becoming part of the landscape, integrating inside and outside activities, and always focusing on the views. Fitness, spa treatment rooms, and physical therapy suites were included along with a great room for meetings and events, a casual café and snack bar. The pool complex includes a zero-entry pool, a spray pool, and areas for serious water-based exercise as well as just lounging with friends and family.

Results

The complex provides a real gathering spot for the residents, one that attracts the youngest to the oldest, offering everything that members wanted and more. It is used the year around and is a now a centerpiece of the community.
