  • The Plantation Club at the Landings
    Savannah, Georgia

BACKGROUND

The Landings is the largest private club in the United States, comprising four separate clubs, including the prestigious Plantation Club. Chambers was tasked with bringing a club designed in a 1970s transitional style — and beginning to show its age — into the 21st century. The Property Owners' Board, Club leadership and membership felt the club needed to better reflect the traditional Low Country design of the area and to take advantage of the beautiful views across marshland and river.

OUR APPROACH

Working on a stringent budget, Chambers had to leverage its connections with fabric houses, furniture manufacturers and especially art sources, because members had identified art as a strongly desirable design element. Because the buildings were somewhat contemporary in design and not in keeping with Low Country style, Chambers began by creating beautiful new millwork to enhance the understated interiors.

RESULTS

Tasteful architectural embellishments, a spacious new ballroom and elegant interiors directing attention to the sweeping exterior views soon turned club usage around, from a facility used occasionally to a vibrant facility enjoyed regularly by members and their families. The Chambers style that had attracted the members and leadership was not compromised by the strict budget, thanks to Chambers' creative and judicious purchasing and its standing with high-quality vendors.
