Forest Lake Club Columbia, South Carolina
Background
When Chambers was selected to become the design firm for Forest Lake, the charge was to take a facility that was a 1960s version of traditional and create a timelessly traditional environment, one that reflected the rich architectural heritage of South Carolina. And, said the club management,"We want the best ballroom in the South!"
Our Approach
Chambers began, as it often does, by evaluating the architecture and noted the improvements needed there. The firm created striking new millwork throughout as the canvas upon which the interiors would be displayed. As with all hospitality work of this caliber, Chambers had to create a residential look and feel with fabrics and furniture that would withstand punishing use. Chambers’ Purchasing Department, which works closely with many hundreds of suppliers, had the connections and the knowledge to get the answers to which fabrics and which furnishings manufacturers could supply the most beautiful and the most durable goods possible.
Results
Not only was the ballroom considered the most beautiful by Club members and managers, but it was booked almost continuously afterward. As Chambers recreated an architecture of past centuries it also created new spaces for the way a private club is used today, and all of the fabrics and rugs and furniture, which arrived at the Club as expected and in the condition expected, have stood the test of time and countless happy events.
