Background

"The spirit of the private club is nowhere better expressed than through the Charlotte Country Club" offers Rick Snellinger, CEO of Chambers. The facility instituted a national search to find the right partner to assist in determining how it would position itself in the decades to come, how it would look, how it would grow. Chambers was selected to be that partner. The areas of emphasis were to be the historic Donald Ross golf course and golf facilities, the adaptation of the club house to truly reflect the gracious culture of the club, and the full range of family-oriented recreational activities.

Our Approach

Chambers Master Planning Program facilitated, working with a planning committee that included past presidents and board members, the process to develop the primary design, the sequencing of the restoration of the clubhouse, and the requisite financial modeling to achieve the goals. While club by-laws did not require membership approval for the expenditure of capital, Chambers kept the members informed of the process through town-hall style meetings. Polls taken by the club showed an astounding 90 percent approval for the entire program by club members.

Results

The majority of the Master Plan will be in place by August of 2009, with particular emphasis on the restoration of the Donald Ross course and of the historic clubhouse. Interestingly, Chambers was asked by the club to interview and select the project architect, the contractor, and the construction supervisor, revealing the strong bond and trust that had developed between the club and Chambers. Interior architecture, interior design, purchasing, and installation were the responsibility of the Chambers Team.
